Description
GAVEAUX (PIERRE).
Signed document, countersigned by a secretary of the committee for the administration of the theatre in rue Feydeau. Paris, 4 thermidor an IV [22 July 1796]. One p. in-4 printed with handwritten additions.
Singer and composer Pierre Gaveaux (1760-1825) was particularly active during the Revolution and the Empire.
"Il sera payé, à la caisse du théâtre, au citoyen Gaveaux, auteur du poème de La Partie quarrée, la somme de sept mille neuf cents dix livres pour hon[orair]es d'une rep[resentati]on de La Partie quarrée donnée le trois th[ermid]or...".
La Partie carrée, a lyric play composed by Pierre Gaveaux to a libretto by Louis Hennequin, premiered on 26 June 1793 at the theatre on rue Feydeau. This theatre, formerly the Théâtre de Monsieur, merged with the Théâtre Favart in 1801 to form the Opéra-Comique.
