Daughter-in-law of the Duc de Penthièvre (grandson of Louis XIV), Marie-Louise-Thérèse de Savoie-Carignan (1749-1792) entered the inner circle of Marie-Antoinette of Austria in 1774, was a regular guest at the Petit Trianon and the Château de Saint-Cloud, and for a time held the position of superintendent of the Queen's household - she thus became associated with the Queen's black legend, and was wrongly considered to be her lover.
