Description
House of Joseph BONAPARTE (1768-1844). Chamberlain's key in gilt. Ring chased with laurel leaves, decorated in the centre with the figure "JN" under a crown, stamped with the lion and the Tower on a water-leaf base. Round stem with four reinforcing rings and plain ball. Openwork paneton. Attached to a scarlet moire bow with gold passementerie braid. Length : 13 cm. B.E. First Empire period. Exhibited in 1965 in the Salle d'Honneur of the Hôtel National des Invalides as part of an exhibition organised by the Association pour l'Encouragement des Etudes Napoléoniennes. Historical background: Joseph BONAPARTE (Corte 1768-Florence 1844). The first prince of the blood when the Empire was proclaimed, he received the dignity of Grand Elector (in 1804), was King of Naples (1806-1808) then King of Spain (1808-1813). From 1815, he lived at Point Breeze, near Philadelphia, before returning to Europe on the death of his daughter Charlotte.
