Description
Grand Duchy of HESSE House of LOUIS I DE HESSE (1753-1830). Beautiful gilt bronze chamberlain's key. The ring is adorned with laurel and oak leaves, the Hessian lion under a crown and an escutcheon with the numeral "L". Round stem with string of small pearls, then wreath of foliage on rectangular base with diamond grid. Plain round collar. Ball engraved with foliage. Bit decorated with a flower. It is mounted on a scarlet moire bow with silver braid trimmings and two tassels with silver pendants. Length: 18.2 cm. B.E. First third of the 19th century. Biography : Louis I of Hesse (1753-1830), landgrave of Hesse-Darmstadt from 1790 to 1806, he presided over a significant increase the territory of Hesse - Darmstadt during the imperial reorganisations of 1801-1803, notably the Duchy of Westphalia, which had previously been under the control of the Archbishop of Cologne.
