Description
Gilt bronze chamberlain's key. The ring is carved with foliage and adorned with a fleur-de-lys, a lion and a Tower, on a shield engraved with "CL" and "ML". Boss decorated with foliage. Fluted shaft, then round ending in a ball. Engraved two-part bit. Length: 16 cm. B.E. 19th century. Historical background: The initials CL and ML could correspond to the cipher of King Charles IV and Queen Marie-Louise, who reigned from 1788 to 1808.
