Description
FLEURY. French school of the 19th century "Lieutenant-Colonel Charles François Moulin, especially, wearing the Officer's Star of the Legion of Honour". Oil on canvas signed lower right (accidents and restorations). 60 x 49 cm. Gilt frame with palmettes Restoration period. Biography : Charles François MOULIN (1777-1853) At the age of sixteen, he enlisted in the 10th Battalion of Manche volunteers. After the Italian campaign and the Egyptian expedition, he was appointed lieutenant at Austerlitz. He then fought in Spain and Russia. In 1812, he was one of the first to enter Moscow, where he was promoted to captain. He spent most of his career in the Imperial Guard infantry. Placed on half pay by the Restoration, he returned to his homeland and in 1821 settled in Vire (Calvados), where he was elected to the town council and served as mayor from 1830 to 1834.
