Large giltwood frame surmounted by a coat of arms of Scotland H. 208 cm - W. 150 cm Provenance : - 1768 -1957: Commissioned by James Boswell ( 1740 - 1795 ) from the painter Henry Benbridge, the painting is preserved in the family home in Auchinleck, Ayreshire, Scotland. - 1957-1974 : By inheritance it enters the family of Mr and Mrs John P. D. Boswell, Auchinleck. 1974: Put up for by Thomas Agnew & Sons, art dealers based in London. - 1974 - 1979: The painting became the property of Mr John D. Rockefeller III and Blanchette Hooker Rockefeller, New York and becomes part of this prestigious collection. - 1979 : FAMSF (Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco). The painting is deposited at the De Young Memorial Museum in San Francisco - 2020 : The painting is acquired by a collector and returns to Corsica.
