An ivory napkin ring chased in high relief
of a cartouche marked "MADAME MERE" in gothic characters (small missing).
Diameter: 4.8 cm. Height: 2.4 cm.
In a turned boxwood box.
A.B.E. circa 1820.
Accompanied by a handwritten note in pen:
"This ivory napkin ring, which belonged to Madame Mère, mother of Napoleon I, was given to Mr Edouard by an old general towards the end of the Second Empire.
