in carved wood, partly gilded, with outstretched wings, the head and top of the wings gilded.
53 cm x wingspan: 1.10 m.
Historical background:
According to family tradition, this eagle was one of the sculptures adorning the catafalque of Emperor Napoleon I resting on "La Belle-Poule", the famous ship under the command of the Duc de Joinville, son of Louis-Philippe, which brought the ashes of Emperor Napoleon I back from St Helena in 1840.
