The Imperial Guard.
Mess punch cup of the 4th regiment of voltigeurs of the Imperial Guard.
Silver-plated metal, on foot, engraved on the body with an imperial crown surmounting a banner.
With engraved inscription "4E Voltigeurs".
Height: 12 cm. Diameter: 18 cm.
B.E. Second Empire period.
Historical background:
The 4th regiment of voltigeurs was created at the end of 1855. Although not heavily involved at Magenta, it distinguished itself at the battle of Solferino. In 1870, it was briefly engaged at Rezonville and more seriously at Ladonchamps, where it lost 6 officers and 130 voltigeurs, before having to surrender at Metz.
