Description
The bedroom of Mademoiselle Mars (1779-1847)
Rectangular chest of drawers in mahogany and moulded moiré mahogany veneer. It opens with a drawer and two doors in the front, decorated with porcelain medallions symbolising the god of poetry and the goddess of music, revealing three internal drawers.
Decorated with chased and gilded bronzes such as framing friezes, palmettes and rosettes. It stands on lion claw front legs and sheathed back legs. Stamped BENAR. Portor marble top.
Restoration period. (missing pieces).
Height : 91 cm. Width : 130,5 cm. Depth : 60 cm.
Provenance :
- Mademoiselle Mars' bedroom in her bôtel in the rue de la Tour-des-Dames around 1825.
- Sale after the death of Miss Mars' son: M.Browner 12, 13 and 14 November 1874 n° 78
- Purchased from Loyere fils, rue de Tournon Paris in 1937.
