Description
[Maréchal SOULT ]
Living room furniture comprising five chairs and four armchairs in cream relacquered wood rechampi green, molded and carved with palmettes, rosettes and acanthus leaves. The belts are slightly curved. The chairs stand on tapered front legs and arched back legs. The armchairs have straight armrests with cuffs and rest on pilaster-shaped front legs and arched back legs. They are upholstered in an old Beauvais tapestry with polychrome decoration of fables in vine framing.

According to the report by the cabinetmaker Jacob-Desmalter, 57 rue Meslée, for the Duchess of Dalmatia (1), this furniture seems to correspond to the delivery on 12 November 1810 on the ground floor of [the hotel formerly Talleyrand-Périgord then Soult 57, rue de l'Université, purchased in 1803 (2)].
In the salon d'été , under n° 960 are mentioned:
"Six armchairs with square mitre backs, carved, repaired, rechambered in white and gilded, decorated with flat bottoms in which are carved in relief double rings and emerging from the base, between each base is an antique rose window and one at the corners, the armrests curved into square trunks, on the top of which are carved in relief an ornamental leaf; the front piece decorated in the same way as the back, the turned front legs carved with leaves in relief in the squares; the seat, back and armrests to be upholstered......à 160 1080 f" This furniture included: under no. 640 "Two sofas 4 feet 8 inches 9l lines long by 37 inches high, backs adjusted, carved, rechambered and gilded like the armchairs ....à 450 900 f" and under no. 480 "Six carved chairs, square backs, adjusted and ornate, rechambered and gilded like the armchairs, front legs turned and ornate idem......90 540 f".
This furniture was also reproduced in the grand salon of the Château de Montchevreuil in 1908-1909 (3).
