Description
A pair of ormolu and griotte red marble torches, decorated with palmettes, garlands and rai-de-coeur, the shaft with flutes and torches resting on a square base supported by turtles; (pierced for electricity). Early 19th century. H : 29 cm Turtle figures were part of the decorative repertoire of the late 18th and early 19th centuries, notably by the bronziers Matthew Boulton (1728-1809) and Luigi Valadier (1726-1785).
