Large full-length statue of the Athenian orator.
Marble (chips, alterations, missing right hand like the original).

Our example is a copy of an antique statue of Eschine from the great peristyle of the Villa des Papyrus in Herculaneum now in the Archaeological Museum of Naples (inv. nr. 6018).
Historical background:
Aeschines in ancient Greek Αἰσχίνης / Aiskhínês, born in Athens around 390 BC and died in 314 BC.
Pupil of Plato and Lysias. A great Athenian orator and politician, he was the opponent of Demosthenes in taking the side of peace with the Kingdom of Macedonia.
