Description
Double percussion shotgun Long round barrels in table, with thunder flats prolonged by a long tail of breech acting as reinforcement of neck of stick. Rear plates covered with silver plates. Round-bodied hammers engraved with foliate scrolls. Half-round chased silver fittings. The trigger guard is decorated with an eagle on a tinderbox and, on the front, with an urn decorated with flowers and fruit, a garland and a foliage design. Return of a bedplate decorated with a dog and a female mask, bordered by a string of small balls. The entrance to the baguette is carved with an anthropomorphic mask and palms. Walnut frame with short barrel. The buttstock is carved with a stylised duck's beak, oak leaves and tortoiseshell checkering, with a silver half-round parrot on the right-hand side and a capsule reserve on the left-hand side (the motif on the lid is missing). On the front of the plates, two small inlaid silver medals, representing on the right, "Napoleon Emperor" in profile, and on the left, "The Emperor and Marie-Louise" in profile. It also has four cabochons adorned with diamond-cut stones (two missing). Fanon ramrod with brass tip and wadding pull. Marks 1809-1819, title mark with rooster Paris 800, guarantee mark and goldsmith's mark "CC". B.E. (cut and fele with a crete of dog). Provenance : - Former Napoleonic collection of the Prince's Palace of Monaco 3rd sale, No. 180 of 18 January 2015 N.B.: this rifle was reassembled in wood and put to percussion around 1825-1830, while retaining the barrel and fittings from the First Empire period. This fine gun undoubtedly had a large owner, and a numeral or coat of arms would have been on the brass motif of the stock door.
