Description
IRAN, circa 1940–1950 A fine, antique Isfahan carpet Made from fine, silky lamb’s wool of the ‘Kork’ quality (harvested in spring) on a cotton backing. Beige field decorated with finely drawn palmette and floral scrolls, surrounded by crenellated foliage in polychrome, framing an original, delicately drawn central multi-lobed rosette with a ruby-coloured floral crown, inlaid with a second midnight-blue medallion in the shape of a stylised diamond. Four spandrels featuring floral bulbs crowned by stylised bowl-shaped motifs. Six borders, the main one sky-blue with motifs of rows of medallions and compartments of palmettes and floral bulbs in pastel shades. Remarkable finesse, beautiful freshness of colour.
