Description
A secretary desk in rosewood, amaranth and other woods, some of which are partially stained and engraved, richly decorated with vases and flowerpots in rectangular recesses with Greek-style mouldings. Rectangular body on a carved frame with console legs. The front features a drawer above a folding writing surface and double lower doors framed by sloping corner pilasters. The upper drawer is inlaid with a meander frieze and subtly accented by brass mouldings. The interior is lined with black leather embossed with gold and contains six drawers and four compartments. The lower doors open onto three compartments, one of which has a removable, lockable insert. Gilded bronze fittings in the shape of rosettes.
Louis XVI, Paris, c. 1770. Signed S. Vie (Sébastien Vie, master craftsman 1767) and bearing a guild mark.
White marble top with grey flecks and a moulded edge.
