Description
A curved wall-mounted console table in carved and gilded wood. The openwork frieze is adorned on the front with a large central shell, flanked by acanthus scrolls. The sides are decorated in a similar style. It is supported by three legs: the rear one in the form of a baluster, and the two front ones featuring inverted double crosses, embellished with acanthus leaves and scrollwork, joined by a crossbar. The piece rests on feet. Top in Rance marble with double moulding. Paris. Regency period. H_ 81 cm L_ 95 cm D_ 50 cm Normal signs of wear. Minor losses. Note: This console table, with its powerful lines featuring a play of contrasting curves, a band alternating solid sections and openwork ornamentation, emphasised by foliage motifs, is probably inspired by the designs of Gilles-Marie Oppenordt.
