A gallant scene with a birdcage in a pastoral landscape illustrating an allegory of Love. Inspired by François Boucher, Jean-Baptiste Pater and Jean-Honoré Fragonard.
The cage symbolises the conquest of love, sentimental attachment and marriage.
The bird symbolises the soul in love, sentimental freedom, virginity and the captive heart of the loved one.
The border is decorated with garlands of flowers and foliage wrapped around a gilded wooden frame in the shape of stylised bamboo.
Four original spandrels with stylised hearts and finely drawn circles of wreaths of foliage.
