PHILIPPE-CLAUDE MONTIGNY (1734-1800) Received as Master in 1766 SLOPING DESK Slightly curved desk in ebony and blackened wood veneer, decorated à la Bérain "Le Roi danse" in brass with figures, masks, foliage and palmettes. It opens with a leather-trimmed flap revealing six drawers, two niches, a secret and two belted drawers. On cambered legs. Stamped. Louis XV period. Height 96; Width 96; Depth 45.5 cm (Restorations) Note. Philippe-Claude Montigny, along with his colleague Levasseur, are known for having brought Boulle marquetry and its techniques up to date in the second half of the 18th century.
