Reprint with variations of the engraving of the tapestry cardboard painted by Charles Coypel in 1716, kept in Compiègne. La Doloride belongs to a cycle of tapestries by the Gobelins based on the story of Don Quixote. It was probably the first illustration of Cervantes' epic novel in France (see T. Lefrançois, Charles Coypel 1694 - 1752, Paris, 1994, no. P. 20, reproduced).
