Description
ROBERT ROBIN (1741-1799), attributed to
An important ormolu clock with a rich decoration of gadroons, foliated interlacing, acanthus leaves, ribboned laurels, garlands of flowers, scrolled consoles and a string of pearls. The circular enamelled dial with Roman numerals for the hours and Arabic numerals for the minutes surmounted by a cassolette resting on hind legs decorated with ram's heads holding chains and a basket of fruit and flowers.

Robin delivered several similar clocks to the royal family, some of which are in the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris and the Stockholm Museum. He called on a number of artists for the cases, including Robert and Jean-Baptiste Osmond, François Rémond, Pierre-Philippe Thomire, Jean-Henri Riesener and Etienne Levasseur.
