A moulded, carved, openwork and gilded wooden monopod CONSOLE depicting a chimera or the allegory of fertility in the guise of Artemis of Ephesus. Italian work from the 18th century Height: 91.5 cm; Width: 41 cm; Depth: 39 cm (accidents, restorations) A figure from the cults of Asia Minor, Artemis of Ephesus is characterised by her frontal and ornamental appearance. The multiple shapes on her chest, often interpreted as breasts, symbolise increased fertility and abundance.
