Pierre GOUTHIERE (1732-1813) after a model of a PAIR OF ANDIRONS In patinated bronze and gilt bronze decorated with ewers, ibexes, mermaids and vine branches, resting on a base decorated with tabourins and various musical instruments, with a mask of a silene. Several examples of the same model are known to exist, and one from the Louis XVI period is now in the Louvre, attributed to the bronzemaker Pierre Gouthière (on the museum's website); in 1856 it adorned the study of Empress Eugénie.
