LARGE, DELICATE AND ANTIQUE TEHRAN RUG (Iran, c. 1940–1950)
Navy blue field featuring a ‘Mina Khani’ design, with a mosaic of finely drawn flower buds in the form of stylised diamonds encircled by slender circular stems.
Five borders, the main one ruby red, featuring rows of floral bulbs in the form of geometrically stylised tortoise shells in polychrome, surrounded by flower buds, echoing the motifs of the central field.
Dimensions 322 x 211 cm.
Kork lambswool pile, of a silky quality, selected in spring on a cotton backing.
Approximate density: 7,500 to 8,000 knots per dm².
Remarkable fineness.
The carpet has been cleaned; the selvedges and finishing stitches have been carried out by hand.
Good overall condition.
Beautiful design (decor without a central medallion, featuring sophisticated polychrome work).
