LES ARGONAUTES in VALLAURIS. Polychrome glazed ceramic wall plaque depicting a monk or a gardener with a watering can, signature incised beneath the base (chips). Circa 1950–1960. Height: 38.5 cm – Width: 16 cm Note: ‘Les Argonautes’ was a ceramics workshop founded in 1953 in Vallauris by Isabelle Ferlay and Frédérique Bourguet. Active from 1953 to 1977, they defined the golden age of the town’s ceramics by creating colourful functional pieces, wall plaques, animal sculptures and mirrors.
