JERSEY. A set of lustred earthenware, some with 19th-century polychrome glazed decoration, comprising: thirteen jugs, three bowls, a cup, a bowl, a small footed cup, a sugar bowl and a double salt cellar in gilded porcelain (chips, missing pieces). Height: 7 cm to 18 cm Note: These earthenware pieces were manufactured in the United Kingdom, in the cities of Leeds, Newcastle or Swansea. On the European mainland, they came to be known as ‘Jersey earthenware’ simply because they passed through the island of Jersey before reaching Normandy.
