Set of two glazed ceramic figures from the Bayonne Guard of Honour: one playing the drum, the other a full-length figure (very slight stains and chips; parts need reattaching). They stand on square red velvet plinths (with stains), fitted with brass mountings allowing for electrification (to be brought up to current standards). 20th century. Height of figures: 31 cm and 28 cm Total height: 40 cm Note: The Bayonne Honour Guard refers to a local military-style unit formed during the First Empire in 1808. Comprising, in particular, a foot guard of around 90 men under the command of Captain Joseph d’Aleman, it provided honour guard duties for the Emperor during his visit and stay in the city.
