‘Bonheur-du-jour’ desk in blackened and painted wood veneer, featuring ‘Boulle’ marquetry in brass on a tortoiseshell-coloured background (chips, veneer lifts, missing sections, imperfections). The upper section opens via two doors surmounting two small drawers. The drop-down top, which forms a writing surface, reveals a blue felt pad (added later); the lower section features a drawer with a curved band. It stands on four curved legs. Gilded bronze ornamentation featuring urns, ovate friezes, laurel toruses, fleurons and floral garlands; the side panels are in the Athenian style. Napoleon III period.
