CAJETANO, David at S. Neus Rädergebäude, Vienna 1791. Large 8°, contemporary tortoiseshell calf, gilt spine, edges decorated in red, decorated endpapers, p. 117 + [3] with vignette on the title page (F. Assner sc) and 1 folded engraved plate. A fine copy.
First edition, extremely rare, of a work which earned its author election to the academies of Berlin, Vienna and St Petersburg.
David Ruetschumann (1726–82 or 96) of Lembach in the Black Forest, whose religious name in the Augustinian Order was David vom Hl. Cajetan, was one of the finest makers of complication clocks of his time. His masterpiece is a one-month astronomical and calendar clock preserved at the Vienna Clock Museum.
