Description
Parts of a cylindrical TABLE CLOCK
with alarm, c. 1600.
Cylindrical base in gilded brass, engraved with mythological figures in medallions separated by rosettes and mascarons; the base engraved with flowers, masks and geometric shapes (the entire engraving is very worn), old inventory number ‘0499’ in ink on the base, hinged dome with a silver rim engraved with the hours 13 to 24, the upper part replaced by a rock crystal hemisphere.
Two-tiered plate movement, largely missing, two engraved barrels, 19th-century compensated balance wheel without escapement, original baluster pillars, two hallmarks on the central plate – an ‘M’ above three spheres and a set square; a shaft – both within the escutcheons; the gong is missing. Diameter 9.2 cm (approx.); Height 9.8 cm.
