Description
Silver staff watch signed ‘Tho[ma]s Maston, London 41630’, c.1825.
White enamel dial, Roman numerals, gold hands. Full-plate movement in gilded brass, silver regulator disc, large openwork and engraved cock, verge escapement, fusee with chain. Plain silver case, double plain silver case, both bearing the London hallmarks for 1824/5. Initials of the case maker ‘JB’, probably for Josiah Barnett.
Diameter 5.7 cm.
An interesting watch in that, thanks to two advertising leaflets found inside the case, we learn that it belonged to a Mr Drydon of Morpeth, for whom it was repaired in 1837 and 1839 by John Craig, clock & watchmaker, Morpeth. In 1864, the watch was cleaned by E. Stanley, Morpeth.
