Mechanised globe bearing the ‘RED’ logo, with a letter ‘A’ cut out to represent Antoine Redier, circa 1870.
Polychrome enamel globe depicting the continents with the names of major cities; suspended from a gilded brass gimbal with steel pivots; Arabic numerals for the 24-hour scale in black enamel on white enamel plaques set onto a gilded brass ring positioned at the equator; a blued steel hand, a turned gilded brass base mounted on a red marble plinth.
Circular movement with an 8-day power reserve, barrel, cylinder escapement, brass balance wheel. The movement is mounted on a central axis with the hand at one end and a counterweight at the other, which maintains the globe at its 23° inclination relative to the ecliptic. With its key

A pupil of Perrelet, Antoine Redier (1817–1892) designed his mechanised globe around 1860. A description of this ‘moving sphere’, which provides ‘a representation of what happens in nature’, can be found in the journal *La Nature*, vol. XI, no. 2, 1883, pp. 191–2.
The recipient of several prizes and patents, Redier published a ‘Mémoire sur le pendule conique’ in Paris in 1861.
