Description
A two-week astro-geographical table clock, inscribed on the meridian ‘William Renda, Clockmaker and Mechanic, Paris 1933’; the globe is inscribed ‘Compiled by J. Forest, Geographer’. For sale in Paris at the maker’s premises, 17 Rue de Buci. Engraved by A. Soldun’
A clock with two dials; the larger, silver-coloured dial displays the hours, minutes, date, day of the week, phase and age of the Moon, and the power reserve (15-0-15), with gilded hands for the time and the others in blued steel.
The lower dial displays the names of the months with their durations around a symbolic celestial map and a vertical planetary display featuring Mercury, Venus, Earth and Mars circling the Sun.
Movement with two barrels, pin escapement, simple balance wheel, spring suspension, equation cam, passing chime on two gongs struck by two hammers; brass cage, originally gilded, glazed on four sides, the corners, base and top adorned with applied garlands and putti, the front flanked by two columns with Corinthian capitals.
The clock is surmounted by Forest’s globe, mounted at its own angle of inclination relative to the plane of the ecliptic on a cylinder bearing the names of the months.

The globe used here by Renda appears to be an adaptation of Model E from the Forest catalogue, a facsimile copy of which we are offering alongside the clock.
