Silver double-cased cylinder watch with central seconds hand, signed (dial and movement) ‘J. Leroux Charing Cross, London, 3105’, c. 1758.
White enamel dial, Roman numerals for the hours, Arabic numerals for the minutes, gold hands, central seconds hand in blued steel.
Gilded brass movement, silver regulator disc, openwork and engraved cock, cylinder escapement, cylindrical pillars, dust cover.
Case and double case in plain silver bearing the Edinburgh hallmarks for 1758/59.
Diameter 5.1 cm – Weight approx. 127.13 g.
John Leroux (fl. 1744–1808) was a pioneer of the lever escapement. An independent clockmaker, he was elected an honorary member of the Clockmakers’ Company in April 1781.
