131 Triple-cased verge watch in silver, signed (dial and movement) ‘Thos Gould London 393’, c. 1742.
White enamel dial, Roman numerals for the hours, Arabic numerals for the minutes, separated by arches; openwork brass hands.
Gilded brass movement, silver regulator disc, openwork and engraved bridge, verge escapement, square pillars.
Plain silver case bearing the London hallmarks for 1742/43; a second repoussé case depicting a scene possibly showing Antony reproaching Cleopatra for her betrayal, fitted with an embroidered cushion; a third case made of silver and horn.
Case diameter 6 cm – Dial diameter 4 cm.
Movement probably Swiss or Dutch, manufactured as an imitation of, or commissioned by, Gould.
