Quarter-hour repeater rod watch with a decimal and duodecimal dial, signed (dial and movement) ‘Jean Fol AParis No. 478’; movement circa 1770, dial circa 1795.
White enamel dial, Arabic numerals; black for the duodecimal system, blue and red for the decimal system; cross-shaped brass hands.
Gilded brass movement, silver regulator disc, openwork and engraved oval bridge, verge escapement, conical pillars, gong chime.
Openwork silver case.
Diameter 5.1 cm.
An interesting example of the conversion of watches following the introduction of the decimal time system (1792). A movement by either Jean I Fol or his son, Jean II Fol (d. 1788), has been repurposed here by the addition of a dial showing both time systems.
