Description
Half-skeletonised verge watch with quarter-hour repeater and ‘Martin-Martine’-style automata, bearing a forged signature (‘Breguet à Paris No. 6179’) on the dial, movement and case, early 19th century.
White enamel ring dial with Arabic numerals, flanked by two automaton figures dressed in antique style, which appear to strike the hours and quarters, above a dog chasing a bird.
Movement recessed into the mainplate, openwork and engraved bridge, silver regulator disc, verge escapement, the rim of the mainplate decorated with an applied band.
Plain silver case.
Diameter 5.7 cm.
There is an amusing error by the engraver, who added a false signature: on the case back the number is ‘6179’, but on the movement it is ‘6189’.
