Description
Silver anchor-escapement watch marked (on the movement and dust cover) ‘John Forrest 80729 London Chronometer maker to the Admiralty’, circa 1900. Guilloché silver dial, the centre featuring a bouquet of flowers, gilded Roman numerals engraved in relief, seconds at 6 o’clock, blued steel hands. Full-plate movement, engraved cock, silver-plated adjustment scale applied to the plate, lever escapement, ruby pallets, compensated balance, cylindrical pillars, dust cover. Fully engraved silver case bearing the Chester hallmarks for 1900/1901. Diameter 5.6 cm. A fine example of the watches produced after John Forrest’s death (1871) by C. J.
