From Pierre Le Petit, Paris, 1672 - A magnificent copy of this very good edition of Le Maistre de Sacy's translation, with a fine engraved frontispiece and title vignette. Excellent provenance, bound in the later stamped arms of the Comtesse du Barry bearing the motto "Boutez en avant", richly ornamented smooth spine, triple gilt fillets decorating the boards, gilt edges, superb starred dominoté paper endpapers, the name Michael ...aunck ? N°30 is inscribed on the endpapers.
The binding is certainly by Louis Redon, who was entrusted with the production of the morocco bindings bearing the arms of the Countess. A very rare provenance as most of the volumes in her library were confiscated and returned to the Versailles library when the Countess Du Barry died on the scaffold.
