[MANUSCRIT] Marie Geneviève Charlotte d'Arlus THIROUX D'ARCONVILLE - Extracts from various journals A magnificent 394pp. in-8 manuscript on satin paper, almost certainly copied by one of the brilliant scientist's secretaries under her dictation. This very interesting collection of documentation includes several articles published in the literary year, in the encyclopaedic journal, the medical journal and the journal des scavants, focusing on scientific subjects, as well as extracts on philosophical subjects. The manuscript is beautifully written in highly legible script without the slightest erasure, and each page is decorated with a fine gilded frame with angular fleurons. Bound in the second half of the eighteenth century in black morocco, triple gilt fillets framing the boards, richly decorated smooth do, superb endpapers and flyleaves of dominoté paper with star motifs. Slight rubbing. Intriguingly, a single leaf numbered "1/2" has been inserted between the title and the first page of text, this leaf entitled "verses addressed to Madame d'Arconville by an unknown person" is also handwritten, in a completely different handwriting and on 18th century vellum paper. It is legitimate to wonder about this handwriting; it could be an authentic manuscript and not a copy made by Madame D'Arconville's secretary. Mme d'Arconville was a friend of Voltaire, Lavoisier and Turgot, and frequented most of the brilliant minds of the Enlightenment: her many contributions in the literary and scientific fields make her an important figure in the world of ideas, to be linked with the Encyclopaedists.
