From Pierre l'Huillier in Paris, 1573 - Very rare first edition of this political and religious propaganda text, which presents letters sent to the Pope by French princes to defend their position in the religious conflict.
A superb copy in an elegant 19th century binding by Asper in full blue morocco, triple framed with gilt fillets on the boards, 5 ribbed spine, interior gilt roulettes and marbled paper endpapers, excellent condition.

By Nicolas Nivelle and Rolin Thierry in Paris, 1589 - An extremely rare first edition of this account of the capture and subsequent surrender of the town and castle of Lametz. The action takes place during the Wars of Religion in France, a period marked by clashes between Catholics and Protestants for control of strategic towns, the protagonist being Charles de Lorraine (the Marquis of Pont-à-mousson).
A very good copy, nicely set in a 19th century binding by Capé in full brown morocco, decorated in the Du Seuil style on the boards, spine with 5 raised bands and ornate boxes, spine ends a little rubbed, gilt edges and marbled paper endpapers, interior perfectly fresh.
