[BOTANY] Pierre-Joseph BUCH'OZ (or BUCHOZ) - Atlas of the Historical Treatise on Plants Grown in Lorraine and the Three Bishoprics Magnificent and extremely rare atlas of 199 engraved plates (out of 202 produced) constituting practically all the plates that were sold by subscription in 7 successive distributions, after the publication of the text. The "title page" of this atlas indicates that the financing was at the expense of the Abbé de Besse de la Richardie, but others contributed, including Bayard, Chaumont, Durival, Spielmann, the town of Nancy, etc. These subscribers are generally indicated in the captions of the plates concerned. Period binding in half basane with well-ornamented spine and red morocco title-piece, marbled paper boards a little faded, minor rubbing and defects, binding remains quite solid, hinges quite compact. Interior very fresh overall, small marginal tear roughly restored to 5 successive plates, not affecting the engravings. The publication of the text in 20 volumes that this atlas is supposed to accompany was done beforehand, this work is particularly sought after to date but the atlas, which is the most sought-after element, is just as sought-after, especially as it is so close to being complete. Very few copies containing so many plates have been located, most of which only contain one or two published series.
