[AMERICANA] [ANTHROPOPHAGIA] Jean de LERY & Hans STADEN - Americae Tertia Pars By Theodore de Bry, 1592, Frankfurt - Extremely rare third part of Teodor de Bry's great voyages, a complete copy in particularly rare and sought-after condition. A gilt-edged paperback copy, formerly bound, it has been placed for preservation in an antique vellum folder of very large folio format. The fold-out map is browned but still present. Includes an engraved title-frontispiece, 2 coat-of-arms vignettes in the preface, 35 engraved vignettes in the first part, a second engraved title-frontispiece entitled "Navigatio in brasiliam Americae", a large out-of-text allegorical engraving and 9 other engraved vignettes, making a total of 49 engravings, as well as numerous culs-de-lampe, lettrines, etc. The work is particularly impressive and sought-after for its famous engravings depicting scenes of anthropophagi among the Amerindian peoples.
