Description
Pair of horses. Terracotta, blue and red polychromy. Hellenistic art, 4th-3rd century BC, attributed to the Arpi workshop, southern Italy. Height 30 cm, length 32 cm. Provenance: Collection of Mr F. A, acquired in the 1970s. The two horses are rearing on their hind legs. Both horses are strong with short, broad necks and detailed musculature. They both have the same type of bridle, with the ends of the bits clearly visible. The head harnesses are decorated with four phalera, formed by discs highlighted in blue, and the hooves are also painted blue.
