Description
Corpus Christi. Wood carved in the round, plastered and polychromed. The fine, regular features of his face, delicately framed by locks of curly hair and beard, contrast with the closed eyes and half-open mouth that convey the human drama with modesty. The short perizonium, carefully sculpted right down to its reverse, is held in place by a tie preciously knotted at the side, releasing the fabric in a supple, graceful fall. Italy, Florence, circa 1480-1500. Height 82 cm. Damage, missing parts and restorations. Ref. Our Christ is to be compared with the corpus identified around and in the wake of the workshops of Giovanni known as Teutonico, active in Florence from 1457 and still present in Norcia in 1494. A certificate of authenticity by Massimo Griffo dated 20 December 1976 will be given to the buyer.
