Christ of pity. Wood panel carved in high relief, stuccoed, polychromed and gilded. The pale-skinned Christ rises from his sarcophagus, revealing the top of the perizonium draped at an angle. The frame of the scene is decorated with a punch. Italy, late 15th century. H.83 W.49.5 D.13 cm. Wear, chips and restorations. Ref. The general attitude, the position of the arms and above all the unusual absence of stigmata could have been modelled on Bellini's Imago Pietatis, painted in 1457 and now in the Poldi Pezzoli Museum in Milan.
