Description
A rare Chinese porcelain ovoid covered pot with Imari decoration of flowers and butterflies, central cartouches with birds/hawks painted in Imari colours of cobalt blue, iron red and enhanced with gold. It features rich rocaille mounts in chased and gilded bronze. It rests on a scrolled base with stylised foliage, scrolls and shells. The handles are formed of elegant scrolls, garlands of oak leaves and acorns. There is a large ormolu scroll at the pre-emptive knob on the lid. 18th century porcelain and 19th century bronze. Height: 70 cm. Provenance: Loeckx sale 14/02/22. For an almost identical porcelain with the same cartouches with birds, and Louis XV mounts, from the Ségoura collection, Christie's New York, Sale of 19 October 2006 lot 68, sold for $132,000. A few knocks on the edge of the lid. Reference Kjellberg, Objets montés, Paris, 2000, page 60.
