Description
Long Cashmere shawl, Paris, Compagnie des Indes, circa 1860-70. Weaving of polychrome woollen yarns creating two facing arcatures on either side of a central medallion in the form of butterfly wings on a black background. Flowers, long stems finished with scrolls and boteh motifs decorate the arcatures and spread out around them. In the central field, a workshop mark embroidered with white threads and a harlequin and fringed border on the two short sides. In its original box with two-part lid, in cardboard covered with white paper titled "Compagnie des Indes, Cachemire - dentelles" and decorated with a gilded border with stamped floral motifs. Closed with cotton laces. Dimensions of shawl: 336 x 141 cm; box: 59 x 39.8 cm. Perfect condition, very slight damage to the fringes, box worn, parts of the decoration missing.
