Description
Pauline Virginie DEJAZET (Paris 1798 – 1875), a French actress, after whom the Théâtre Déjazet was named; she owned the theatre from 1859 to 1870. A signed autograph letter dated 11 November 1861 addressed to Messrs A. Gleizes and F. Langlé, in which she gives her consent for the play *Un franc cinquante le kilo* to be performed at her theatre. “Gentlemen, following our verbal discussions held today, I hereby confirm that I have accepted your one-act play entitled *Un franc cinquante le kilog.* and undertake to stage it at my theatre before 15 March 1862. I hereby declare in advance that I accept any changes that may be required by the Censorship Board, without, however, being liable for the complete banning of the play...” One and a half pages, in-8 format, on letterpaper bearing the letterhead “Théâtre Déjazet, boulevard du Temple – Management”. Enclosed is a photograph printed on paper of the actress bearing a signed dedication by Virginie Dejazet, with the inscription below: “To my friend Alexandre Michel. Dejazet. January 1858”, a stage actor (1813–1877).
